PERFORMING

historical double bassHistorical Double Bass

I came to Switzerland in 2004 to study the historical double bass and European music at the source, at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis. There I had the opportunity to explore Baroque performance practice. Unlike the modern double bass, lower stringed instruments of the 18th and 19th centuries were played exclusively with gut strings, and often with frets as well. In addition, the type of bows and the performance style was quite different than those of today.

Over the years I have had the opportunity to perform worldwide with many orchestras including Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, I Barrocchisti, Cantus Firmus, Ensemble Café Zimmermann, La Chambre Philharmonique, Kammerorchester Basel, and Ensemble Baroque du Grand Théâtre de Genève.
